This large spider is very common found in scrub oak woods in central Flordia. These photos were taken in the Sandhills Gamelands in a dry Longleaf Pine habitat with scattered scrub oaks. They usually build the "orb" web no higher than waist high between trees or weeds. Totally harmless to humans also. Read more about them at my nature blog.
