Size: Wingspan is 2 to 3 inches. Females are much bigger than males. Similar Species: None Habitat: Sandy areas with yuccas, pinelands and coastal dunes. Abundance: Uncommon to rare. Found only in sandy areas with yuccas. Flight Period: From late March until early May. Comments: These photos were taken in Weymouth Woods at Scott Hartley`s residence on April 03, 1999 The female on right stayed on the silk tent the entire time I was there. The males seemed to enjoy sunning on the gravel driveway. These butterflies do not take nectar. |
