Glassywing, Pompeius verna Size: Wingspan is 1 to 1 3/8 inches. Similar Species: Dun Skipper, Northern Broken-Dash Habitat: Common in fields near woodlands, powerline cuts ,damp places and gardens. Abundance:
Common and somewhat widespread.
Flight Period: The first brood flies from mid May until mid June. The second brood flies from mid July until September. Comments: This skipper is easily to find and usually very easy to approach. The photo above shows a purplish sheen this isn't very common, usually it`s just dark brown. Note the white areas just before the antennal clubs makes it easy to ID from the Dun Skipper and Northern Broken-Dash. The top photo was taken in Eno River State Park at the Cole Mill
