Juvenal`s Duskywing,
Erynnis juvenalis

 

Size: Wingspan is 1 1/4 to 1 3/4 inches.

Similar Species: Horace`s Duskywing

Habitat: Oak woodlands, open woodland edges and dirt roads.

Abundance: Abundant to common, less common in coastal plain.

Flight Period: Early March until late May. Somewhat later in the mountains.

Comments: This Juvenal`s Duskywing was found on March 19, 1999 at Raven Rock State Park. Later I visited RARO on March 28 and we saw at least 100 of them.
