Horace's Duskywing,
Erynnis horatius

Size: Wingspan is 1 1/4 to 1 3/4 inches.

Similar Species: Juveniles Duskywing, Wild Indigo Duskywing, Zarucco Duskywing

Habitat: Oak woodlands, open woodland edges and dirt roads.

Abundance: Widespread and fairly common.

Flight Period: First brood April until mid May. Second brood late May until mid September.

Comments: This Horace`s Duskywing was found in my garden in Orange Co. North Carolina in August 1998. I found it nectaring on verbena in my front garden. Juvenal`s Duskywing is very common early in the season and seems to be replaced by Horace`s Duskywing in early summer.
