Hoary Edge,
Achalarus lyciades

Size: Wingspan is 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 inches.

Similar Species: Silver-spotted Skipper

Habitat: Dry places, partial sunlight, sandy fields, powerline cuts and gardens.
Abundance: Uncommon to fairly common. Most common in the sandhills and upper coastal areas.

Flight Period:
The first brood flies from late April until mid June. Second brood mid July until mid September.

Comments: The top photo was taken in my yard in Orange Co., NC on May 27, 2002. The second photo on Ox-eyed Daisy was taken in Orange Co., NC on May 15, 2004. The bottom photo was taken on May 15, 2002 in my garden in Orange Co., NC.
