Yellow-sided Skimmer,
Libellula flavida



Size:
Medium about 2 inches.

Habitat: Seepages and mucky bogs. Usually in the coastal plain.

Flight Period: May - October

Comments: The adult males of this species resemble Slaty Skimmers with Blue bodies and nearly black heads. Notice the yellow stigmas.

Both teneral female photos were taken at Occoneechee Mountain State Natural Area in Orange Co., NC on May 20, 2001.

The mature male was found in the summer of 2000 in the Sandhills Gamelands at a seepage site in Scotland Co., NC.
