Yellow-legged Meadowhawk,
Sympetrum vicinum

Size:
Small to about 1 1/3 inches.

Habitat: Marshes, lakes, ponds and bogs in somewhat wooded areas.

Flight Period: September until early November

Comments: In North Carolina it`s our last emerging dragonfly. It`s told from other similar species by it`s brown not black legs. And it`s the only meadowhawk that lays eggs in tandem. Males are red and females are stockier and brown.

These photos were taken in my yard on October 23, 2000 in Orange Co., NC.
