Size:
Medium to about 2 inches.

Habitat: Ponds, lakes, marshes and bogs.

Flight Period: May - October

Comments: Known to migrate in the fall. Males perch along shores on bare perches like shown here. Both sexes hunt from tall weed stems along shores. Females resemble the smaller more common Common Whitetail.

The top photo was taken in October 2000 at Crabtree Lake County Park in Wake Co., NC. The female photo at right was taken at Occoneechee Mountain State Natural Area in Orange Co., NC on May 15, 2001.
