Splendid Clubtail,
Gomphus lineatifrons

Size:
2.6 inches.

Habitat: Rivers with sandy, rocky and silt bottoms. Found in mountain regions of North Carolina and northward in the Appalachian Mountains.

Flight Period: May - July

Similar Species: Cobra Clubtail and Blackwater Clubtail

Comments: This female I found at Duke Forest in Orange County, NC on May 25, 2001 in a powerline clearing. As far as I know this is a first record for Orange County although there is a Durham County record and Durham County is not a mile from this site.
