Slaty Skimmer,
Libellula incesta

Size:
Medium about 2 inches.

Habitat: Ponds, swamps and mucky bottom streams or rivers.

Flight Period: May - October

Comments: These are very common during the summer and seem like they`ll turn up anywhere near water. Teneral females can be hard to tell from Libellula vibrans, Great Blue Skimmer.

Both photos were taken at Occoneechee Mountain State Natural Area in Orange County, NC on May 20, 2001.
