Size: Large 2.9 inches.

Habitat: Shady forested streams and swampy woods and roadsides.

Flight Period: May -early November. Most common in the fall.

Similar Species: None in North Carolina

Comments: This is a northern species and Durham, NC is on the southern extent of its range. Found throughout most the northern US.

The photo shown here was taken in Duke Forest, Durham County, NC on September 27. 2000 near a small stream in a partly open woods.
