Golden-winged Skimmer,
Libellula auripennis

Size: Medium about 2 inches.

Habitat: Ponds, lakes, ditches and streams. Usually with grassy areas.

Flight Period: May - October

Comments: The adult males of this species resemble Slaty Skimmers with Blue bodies and nearly black heads. Notice the yellow stigmas.

Both photos were taken at Occoneechee Mountain State Natural Area in Orange County, NC on May 20, 2001.
