Faded Pennant,
Celithemis ornata

Size: Small about 1 1/8 to 1 /1/4 inches.

Habitat: Ponds, lakes and wet ditches.

Flight Period: Late April - September

Comments: Males perch along the edges of ponds and lakes on knee height perches usually easily over looked. The amazing thing about this tiny pennant is that when it is teneral it can be very beautiful and in a few weeks it`ll be very plain looking.

The above photo of a male Faded Pennant was taken along a small lake that was mostly drained in Richmond county portion of the Sandhills Gamelands on June 11, 2000. The female shown at right and below was perching with an immature male Amanda`s Pennant along a sandy road next to a seepage spot in the Scotland county portion of the Sandhills Gamelands on June 11, 2000.

The teneral male Faded Pennant at bottom was found in Chesterfield County, SC on April 30, 2001
