Common Baskettail,
Epitheca cynosura

Size: about 2 inches

Habitat: Along woodland edges and openings.

Flight Period: Spring

Comments: For some reason the Common Baskettails in North Carolina don`t show the black mantling at the base of the wings very often.

These photos were taken at Crooked Creek WMA.in Vance County on March 31, 2000 These three photos show the female closing her wings. Perhaps because they were not done drying yet? Notice on the top photo the forewings aren`t quite flat yet.
