Size: 2.2 inches.

Habitat: Swamps, temporary pools and sedgy woodland bogs, seepages and mucky bogs.

Flight Period: May - September

Similar Species: Slaty Skimmer and Great Blue Skimmer.

Comments: The top and bottom photos were taken in the Caswell Gamelands in Caswell County, NC on May 27, 2001. There was 3 males and all were fighting over the ovapositng female Great Blue Skimmer shown below. I did see one male Great Blue Skimmer nearby, but it never got close to the female that was ovapaoiting I did not see any breeding, but did see many a face to face approach of the males and female as well as chasing from both sexes as well.
