Size: Large to about 3.3 inches.

Habitat: Spring fed creeks or rivulets with mucky bottoms usually.

Flight Period: May - August

Comments: These spiketails are know to fly straight up like a arrow were alarmed. They will perch on low weed stems or high limbs. Females will have a spike at the end of the abdomen.

Both photos of males were taken at Occoneechee Mountain State Natural Area in Orange County, NC on May 15, 2001.
