# 10222 Palamedes Swallowtail Sub Family: Papilioninae This beautiful Palamedes Swallowtail it was perched above a fire pit on a twig. This is a swallowtail species of the southeastern swamps. The courtship flight is quite a sight to see it reminds me of puppets on a string the way the hover over each other. Hosts: Red bay (Persea borbonica). Photo taken on 7/24/99 at the Sandhills Gameland in Hoke County, NC during the Fourth of July Butterfly Count there. |
