Black Swallowtail
(Papilio polyxenes)

Here is a pair of mated Black Swallowtails on a stalk of Bronze Fennel its host plant. The female on top had just emerged and this male mated with her before she could fly.This is a very suburban species and is adaptive to urban environments and is very widespread.

Hosts: Fennel, Parsley, Carrot and other umbellifera species.
