This is a legless lizard and it is often mistaken for being a snake.
Unlike snakes it has moveable eyelids and external ear openings.
These lizards are called glass lizards because of the way the tail can "shatter" off to prevent capture.
The lizard featured here was about 2 1/2 foot long.
