Wingspan is 1 to 1 1/2 inches.

Similar Species:
Orange Sulphur

Sleepy Orange

Habitat: Widely found in all types of open areas and cultivated fields.

Abundance:
Fairly common in the eastern part of the state to rare in the western part of North Carolina.

Flight Period:
Flies from mid April until late October. From July on much more common.

Comments: The above Little Yellow I found on the Raleigh Butterfly Count on July 24, 1999. It was the first report in North Carolina for the season. In 1998 they were very common and found much earlier in the season. The Little Yellow at right was found in Lawrence County, Ohio on October 25, 2000 notice the reddish dot it`s not as noticeable in our North Carolina species.
