White Peacock,
Anartia jatrophae

New White Peacock page from TX

Size: Wingspan is 1 3/4 to 2 1/8 inches.

Similar Species: None

Habitat: Weedy areas near coastal regions. Tropical species.

Abundance: Casual or accidental. Found along the southern coastal regions.

Flight Period: All year in the deep south, but may show up in summer or early fall in North Carolina.

Comments: This White Peacock was found in south Florida on December 22 1998. This species is very easy to approach. I don`t think it was found in North Carolina in 2000 at all. Considering hurricane Bonnie hit the area hard in 1999 we`re hopeful it this species will survive in NC.
