Size: Wingspan is 1 to 1 1/4 inches.

Similar Species: None in the Carolinas.

Habitat: Open disturbed areas and fields.

Abundance: Very rare stray to the Carolinas. Sometimes its years between sightings.

Flight Period: Flies from late summer or fall.

Comments: The above Dainty Sulphur was one of five found in Mecklenburg County North Carolina in mid October 2002. Hopefully more butterfliers will be on the look out for this tiny migrant butterfly.
