Size: Wingspan is 2 1/8 to 2 3/4 inches.

Similar Species:
Orange-barred Sulphur

Habitat: Widely found in all types of open areas and cultivated fields.

Abundance: Common in most of North Carolina. More abundant in coastal areas. Migrates in late summer and early fall.

Flight Period: Flies from early March until late November. More common as they move northward in September.

Comments: The above Cloudless Sulphur I found in Durham County in July 1999.This pair of resting Cloudless Sulphurs I found at the Magic Wings Butterfly House in Durham. The back one is the male and the one in front is the female. The sailing flight with deep wing beats is easy to recognize on the wing.
