Clouded Sulphur,
Colias philodice

Size: Wingspan is 1 1/2 to 2 3/8 inches.

Similar Species:
Orange Sulphur

Habitat: Open areas, cultivated fields, roadsides and gardens.

Abundance: Very common to abundant in North Carolina. Uncommon in the coastal plain.

Flight Period: Flies from early March until late November.

Comments: The Clouded Sulphur is hard to identify from the Orange Sulphur look for an lemon yellow to greenish yellow appearance rather than a orangish yellow on the Orange Sulphur. Also there`s a white form that can be mistaken for Cabbage White in flight.

These photos were taken on October 24, 2000 in Sciota Co., OH.
