Similar Species:
Monarch

Habitat:
Coastal areas and tidal marshes

Abundance:
Rare in North Carolina only near the coastal areas. Common in the deep south in coastal areas.

Flight Period:
Flies from late summer and early fall.

Comments:
The above Queen I found at Fort Fisher, NC along North Carolina`s coast on August 26, 2000. The Queen on right on a bidens flower I found at Ding Darling NWR in Florida in December 1998.

Queens and Monarchs both use Milkweeds as a host plant for their caterpillars.
