Pearly-Eye Help Page

All three of these pearly-eye species are the same size and can be easily
confused with one another. Remember habitat will have some consideration also.
The only place all three are found is Raven Rock State Park and in the piedmont
at certain times. If your in the coastal plain then southern and creole would
generally be the ones you see. In the foothills or mountains then northern
would be a good bet. Please try to get the field marks listed below!

Southern Pearly-Eye,
Enodia portlandia

Notice the completely orange antennal clubs! The spots in the forewing slightly curve inward. Also watch for this marking on the forewing of both the northern and southern pearly-eyes.

Notice the black before the tip and a pale tip on the antennal clubs! Notice the spots on the forewing are in a straight line.

See the knuckles of a closed fist in the forewing post median line! Both Northern & Southern Pearly-eyes don`t have the knuckle it looks like this instead making it easy to tell the creole from the northern or southern.

All three species from above will look like this Northern Pearly-eye.
