Common Wood Nymph (Cercyonis pegala)

One of the largest and most variable satyrs
in the US. The eastern wood nymphs have a large cream patch
surrounding the eye-spots on the forewing. As you move northward
and/or westward the cream patch disappears entirely. These
represent three different sub-species, the names are included
with the photos thanks to Ron Gatrelle.
