Size: Wingspan is 1 1/4 to 1 7/8 inches.

Similar Species:
Silver-bordered Fritillary

Habitat: Open fields, meadows, and roadsides in the mountains mainly. Sometimes found in the foothills..

Abundance: Fairly common in the northern mountains and uncommon in the central and southern mountains.

Flight Period: Flies from April until September. With gaps in between 3 broods.

Comments:
The top and center photos were taken in Doughton Park in Alleghany Co., NC on July 28, 2002. The bottom photo was taken in Adams Co., OH on September 03, 2002.
