Size: Wingspan is 7/8 to 1 inch.

Similar Species:
Hessel`s Hairstreak

Habitat: Can be found near eastern red cedar, (Juniperus virginiana) and southern red cedar (J. salicicola) in coastal areas. Old fields powerlines cuts and disturbed areas.

Abundance: Uncommon in the eastern piedmont to nearly rare in the coastal plain.

Flight Period: Flies from late March until early September in 2 to 3 broods.

Comments: Juniper Hairstreak also called Olive Hairstreak.

The top and bottom photos were taken in Botetourt Co., VA at Catawba Creek on April 24, 2003. The center photo was taken in Caswell Co., NC on May 07, 2004.
