Size: Wingspan is 1 to 1 1/4 inch.

Similar Species:
King`s Hairstreak
Banded Hairstreak
Hickory Hairstreak
Striped Hairstreak

Habitat: Scrub oaks and dry rocky places with scrub oaks. Xeric areas in the sandhills with perhaps Turkey Oak.

Abundance: Rare and very local in the mountains and sandhills. Very rare elsewhere in the state.

Flight Period: Flies from late May until early July.

Comments:
The top and bottom photos were taken in Moore Co., NC at Weymouth Woods State Preserve on June 02, 2002. The center photo was taken in Moore Co., NC on June 06, 2003.
