Western Coral Hairstreak Page

Size: Wingspan is 1 to 1 1/4 inch.

Similar Species:
No other tailless hairstreaks in NC.

Habitat: Old fields, woodland borders, brushy thickets and powerline clearings. This species really favors nectaring on Butterflyweed (Asclepias tuberosa).

Abundance: Uncommon to nearly common in the central and eastern Piedmont, uncommon in the Sandhills and in the western Piedmont. Mostly very rare in the mountains.

Flight Period: Flies from late May until mid July.
