Thanks to Ron Gatrelle for help with these unusual Satyrium calanus/caryaevorum IDs. He stated none of these questions can be answered without collecting specimens and examining them closely. There are thousands of specimens in the calanus group in private and institutional collections. Specialists have been aware for over 75 years that multiple species are involved here - and still have not solved the riddles. I agree much still needs to be learned about this group.
