Size: Wingspan is 2 to 2 1/2 inches.

Similar Species:
Great Spangled Fritillary

Habitat: Open fields, gardens, woodland edges and dunes.

Abundance: Common in the southeastern parts of North Carolina and sometimes found in the mountains.

Flight Period:Flies from mid August until late October.

Comments:

The top and center photos were taken in Calhoun Co. SC on October 25, 2002. The bottom photo was taken in Bahia Honda State Park on January26,2002.
