Butterfly Trip to Florida Day 2, November 11, 2001
|
On day two of my trip I wanted to do Ocala National Forest but it was very foggy and too cool for butterflies. I did drive over to Hopkins Prairie but found way too many hunters for my taste. So I headed south towards Lake Kissimmee State Park (LKSP) on my way it became sunny and I found a weedy place along the road next to a huge orange grove and made my first stop. It wasn't long before I found my second and third lifer butterflies Dainty
Sulphur and Barred Yellow. Soon both lifers became very common the rest
of the day. I really hit good numbers on my second day especially on Ocola
Skippers. Once in Lake Kissimmee State Park I met several birders and
was told of the pair of Whooping Cranes there, I could hear the cranes
cooing but never located them. Headed southeast from LKSP to spend the night in Okeechobee so Fort Lauderdale
would be fairly easy to get to in the morning.
On to Day 3 Broward County
