Butterfly Trip to Florida Day 2, November 11, 2001

On day two of my trip I wanted to do Ocala National Forest but it was very foggy and too cool for butterflies. I did drive over to Hopkins Prairie but found way too many hunters for my taste. So I headed south towards Lake Kissimmee State Park (LKSP) on my way it became sunny and I found a weedy place along the road next to a huge orange grove and made my first stop.

It wasn't long before I found my second and third lifer butterflies Dainty Sulphur and Barred Yellow. Soon both lifers became very common the rest of the day. I really hit good numbers on my second day especially on Ocola Skippers. Once in Lake Kissimmee State Park I met several birders and was told of the pair of Whooping Cranes there, I could hear the cranes cooing but never located them.

Here`s the list for Polk County Florida.
