Size: Wingspan is 1 1/4 to 1 3/4 inches.

Similar Species:
Checkered White

Habitat: Moist woodlands and woodland openings.

Abundance: Common in the piedmont and rare or accidental in the coastal plains of North Carolina. Not common in the mountains.

Flight Period: Early March until early May. I did find one at a very high elevation in the mountains on June 01, 2000 once.

Comments: The top photo wa taken in the Caswell Gamelands in Caswell Co., NC on April 04, 2005. The center photo was taken at Occoneechee Mountain State Natural Area in Orange Co., NC on March 24, 2005. The bottom photo was taken in Botetourt Co., VA on April 19, 2005.
