Size: Wingspan is 1 1/8 to 1 1/2 inches.

Similar Species:
Little Wood Satyr
Gemmed Satyr (in flight)

Habitat: Wet woodlands, trails in grassy woods and adjacent damp areas. Likes partial shade.

Abundance: Very common to common in most of the state. Less common in the lower mountains.

Flight Period: Three broods flies from late March until late October.

Comments:

The top and bottom photos were taken in orange Co., NC on April 25, 2004. The second photo was taken in Howell Woods in Johnston Co., NC on May 01, 2005. The third photo was taken in Moore Co., NC on September 13, 2003.
