Ceraunus Blue,
Hemiargus ceraunus

New Ceraunus Blue Page

Size: Wingspan is 3/4 to 1 inch.

Similar Species:
None in North Carolina.

Habitat: Open areas, power line cuts, disturbed areas and grassy fields.

Abundance: Casual or accidental in the southern coastal areas of North Carolina.

Flight Period: Late summer or early fall.

Comments: The Ceraunus Blue at right and above I found in the Everglades in southern Florida in late December 1998.

The Ceraunus Blue at bottom was found at Fort Johnson in Charleston, South Carolina on Oct 9, 1999 and would be considered a very lucky find in either of the carolinas! The pea it`s on may well be one of the host plants for it.
