Butterflies seen in my yard on August 04, 2000

Many of you have been saying there`s a shortage of butterflies in your garden this year, well here today I had my best day yet! I urge you to learn your butterflies, so I`m taking a great deal of care to list my butterflies in my garden and have links to each butterfly found with info and photos of nearly all of them. So please take your time reading this and check the links as you go.

Just yesterday I had my 70th yard species show up a male Zarucco Duskywing, today 2 females showed up as well.Then in the afternoon today I found a Eufala Skipper along my driveway making it yard butterfly #71. My Yard list is here.

Here`s my list of 33 species of butterflies seen in my yard in Orange County, North Carolina on August 04, 2000

1 Pipevine Swallowtail
12 Black Swallowtail caterpillars
24 Eastern Tiger Swallowtail
12 Spicebush Swallowtail (record number here!)

3 Juniper Hairstreak (on Hoary Mint Mint and on a cedar shrub)
7 Gray Hairstreak (Apple Mint)

20 Eastern Tailed-blue (3 pairs mating too!)
4 Summer Azure

1 American Snout (landed on me!)

24 Pearl Crescent
5 Question Mark (sap tree and hill topping)
3 Eastern Comma (sap tree and hill topping)
1 American Lady (Butterflybush)
1 Red Admiral (Apple Mint)

6 Red-spotted Purple (Apple Mint)

3 Northern Pearly-eye (sap tree)
3 Gemmed Satyr (sap tree)
2 Common Wood Nymph (sap tree and hill topping)

1 Monarch (very fresh)

12 Silver-spotted Skipper
20 Hoary Edge (record number here!)
2 Southern Cloudywing
4 Northern Cloudywing
1 Horace`s Duskywing ((Apple Mint and verbena)
3 Zarucco Duskywing (1 male, 2 females, took photos of both sexes!)
